UCSBApproximately 100 miles north of Los Angeles and ten miles from downtown Santa Barbara, UCSB is located on 1,000 coastal acres. Originally a state college, it became part of the University of California system in 1944. Today nearly 20,000 students attend the university, which offers more than 90 majors and 170 degrees. UC Santa Barbara’s meteoric rise to distinction—from a teaching college to a world-class university in 60 years—is a phenomenal education success story. U.S. News and World Report’s guide, “America’s Best Colleges,” ranks UCSB as the 13th best public university in the nation, out of more than 1,400 colleges and universities surveyed.

"If there's a more beautiful campus than this one on the edge of the Pacific, we haven't seen it."  - Newsweek Magazine

An elected member of the prestigious Association of American Universities, this vibrant, energetic campus ranks with Harvard, Stanford, and UC Berkeley among the leading institutions of higher learning in the United States and Canada. In fact, UCSB professors have been awarded five Nobel prizes in the past eight years.
